Phaeodaria is a marine-inspired, information-based, lighting installation by Teddy Lo. It represents the underlying energy and information flowing through the heart of Hong Kong. The LEDs are programmed to interactively react to the invisible frequencies and radiations that dominate our life in this information age: from GSM to Bluetooth, 3G to Wi-Fi signals. The installation act as an energy capsule that interplay LEDs with the wireless technology of Hong Kong. Phaeodaria was exhibited at Microwave, “A-Glow-Glow Macro Interactive Media Arts Exhibition in 2008 by the peripheral area of Museum of Arts.[11][12]
The namesake are the Phaeodarea, tiny oceanic radiolarians which produce an intricate exoskeleton. That of some species, notably in the family Sagosphaeridae, resembles the arrangement of struts in the lighting installation.
